Kyoto Gets Its First Oh!huggy!! — Flower Ohagi, Zero Chill
The Kobe-based flower ohagi specialist opened its Kyoto Fushimi Inari shop on February 5, 2026. You’ll find Oh!huggy!! (オーハギー)on the ground floor of Kyoto Fushimi Inari OICY Village, a busy commercial complex near one of the city’s most crowded sightseeing zones. The location leans tourist-heavy. The sweets don’t bother pretending otherwise.

Oh!huggy!! is built around one idea: ohagi that look like flowers. Not “inspired by,” not “hinting at”—actually piped to resemble roses, camellias, carnations, and other seasonal blooms. Each month brings a different lineup, turning the display case into something closer to a rotating gallery than a traditional wagashi counter.
The name Oh!huggy!! plays on the word “hug” and the sound of ohagi, which explains the aesthetic: handmade, soft-edged, and intentionally cute. Every piece is carefully finished, meant to be admired for a second before you give in and eat it. It’s sentimental, but knowingly so—and it doesn’t try to sell you a philosophy along with your dessert.
Ingredients are taken seriously. The anko is specially made by long-established Ashiya wagashi shop Kineya Toyomitsu, using Hokkaido-grown azuki and tebō beans. The glutinous rice comes from the Hida region, prized for its deep sweetness and chewy texture. It’s the kind of sourcing detail that matters once you taste it, not before.

Beyond the signature flower ohagi, the shop also offers Kyoto-exclusive items like flower-shaped dango, mitarashi dango, and soft warabi mochi—easy to grab if you’re mid-walk and not looking to sit down. There is an eat-in space, though, serving Uji matcha lattes and the visually committed “blooming warabi mochi drink,” which looks exactly like something people will pause to photograph.
Is it subtle? Not even a little. But tucked into the chaos around Fushimi Inari, Oh!huggy!! feels less like a souvenir stop and more like a deliberate sugar detour—one that knows its audience, and leans into it without apology.
