Tokyo Bay night views, sizzling teppan steak and a surprisingly extra boat dinner
The smell of sizzling wagyu drifting across Tokyo Bay might be the city’s most extra dinner upgrade yet.
Tokyo yakatabune operator Edomae Kisen (江戸前汽船) is adding a new luxury option to its retro-style boat cruises: Kuroge Wagyu Fillet Steak (黒毛和牛フィレステーキ), launching June 1, 2026. Reservations open May 11, 2026.

The company’s yakatabune — traditional covered boats that cruise Tokyo Bay and the Sumida River — are already popular for their all-you-can-eat monjayaki, Tokyo’s messy, pan-fried batter dish cooked right at the table. But demand for more upscale dining experiences has grown alongside anniversary bookings and inbound tourism.

The new menu item keeps the theatrical part intact. Guests grill the soft, richly flavored Kuroge Wagyu fillet themselves on an onboard iron plate, surrounded by night views of the Tokyo Skytree and Rainbow Bridge. There’s the sound of meat crackling, the smell of butter and smoke, and the slightly surreal feeling of eating steak while floating through central Tokyo.
Kuroge Wagyu Fillet Steak costs ¥4,000 for 100 grams, with orders starting from 100 grams. Reservations are required at least five days before boarding and must be booked alongside the standard cruise course, which includes unlimited monjayaki and drinks.
Tokyo already does dinner with a view. Doing it with wagyu smoke in the air feels very Tokyo.
