Would you fly to Japan for Mario? This galaxy ice cream collab might be why

A Japan-only scoop of Super Mario Galaxy—with stars, sundaes and collectible extras

At this point, Super Mario collaborations at Baskin-Robbins Japan are starting to feel less like one-off promotions and more like a seasonal ritual. This year, the chain leans fully into cosmic chaos with a Super Mario Galaxy-themed lineup of ice cream, drinks, and aggressively colorful desserts.

Baskin-Robbins Japan is teaming up with Nintendo for a limited-time collaboration inspired by Super Mario Galaxy (スーパーマリオギャラクシー), turning its stores into a swirl of stars, characters, and candy-colored cosmos from April 1 to May 7, 2026.

At the center is a new flavor, Cotton Fruit Galaxy (コットンフルーツギャラクシー)—a three-tone scoop designed to echo the game’s shimmering universe. Think cotton candy-style ice cream in deep blue, a lightly salted lychee sorbet in sky blue, and a sweet-tart pear sorbet in white. It’s finished with star-shaped candy pieces, nodding to the game’s collectible “Power Stars.”

The campaign leans hard into visuals. Double cups come dressed with familiar faces like Mario, Peach, and Toad, while a special Rosetta-themed version includes a small charm shaped like a spoon accessory. There are also sundaes topped with character picks—randomized, like a tiny gacha moment with your dessert.

For bigger appetites, a take-home set packages eight scoops in a box decorated with scenes from the game, bundled with an eco bag featuring artwork from Rosetta’s storybook—a recurring motif in the series.

Buy certain items and you might snag a limited-edition star-shaped sticker, while a GPS check-in via Nintendo’s mobile app unlocks another.

Japan has a long-running habit of turning game franchises into highly theatrical desserts, but Mario Galaxy may be one of the few concepts that genuinely makes sense as ice cream.

Somewhere between childhood nostalgia and rainbow-colored sugar overload, this is exactly the kind of collaboration Japan refuses to do halfway.

It’s Japan-only for now—so, would you book a flight for a scoop with Mario? 🍨✈️
