Fireflies, projection mapping, and Tokyo’s skyline collide 150 meters above the city
Tokyo’s summer fireworks season is getting an air-conditioned upgrade. From 150 meters above the city, visitors to Tokyo Tower can watch digital fireworks explode across the skyline—without the humidity, packed riverbanks, or post-show train chaos.

Running from May 11 to September 6, the immersive light show TOKYO TOWER CITY LIGHT FANTASIA 2026 Summer turns Tokyo Tower’s Main Deck into a glowing indoor version of a Japanese summer festival. Created by NAKED, INC., the experience layers projection mapping over the real Tokyo night view outside the windows.
This year’s theme is “fireworks” and “fireflies.” Giant fireworks bloom across the panoramic glass while tiny laser lights drift through the space like hotaru—fireflies that have long been tied to Japanese summer nights. Firework patterns ripple across the floor beneath visitors’ feet.
Starting June 19, the installation expands with candle displays made from bamboo and driftwood, adding an even dreamier festival atmosphere.
It’s part light show, part escape plan for Tokyo’s brutal summer heat. And honestly, fireworks probably do look better with air conditioning.
