Japan’s weird hotel launches a Morinaga Ramune candy room

The themed room lets guests stack Ramune bottles, enjoy candy-scented aromas and take home sweets

Japan’s famously quirky hotel chain is going all in on candy.

Starting March 19, guests at several locations of Henn na Hotel can check into Morinaga Ramune Room(森永ラムネルーム), a themed guest room built around Morinaga’s long-running Ramune candy—small fizzy tablets that have been a staple of Japanese snack aisles for decades.

The room is designed as a full-on Ramune experience. Decorations feature the candy’s official mascots, Ramuneko and Shuuchuu, while a Ramune-scented aroma set fills the space with that unmistakable sweet smell.

There’s also a playful challenge waiting inside.

Each room includes a “Morinaga Ramune vending machine?!” stocked with 20 bottles of the candy. Guests can attempt the Ramune Challenge, stacking the bottles into a tower using instructions provided in the room. Pull it off, and you’ll earn a special prize.

The stay comes with a handful of themed souvenirs too, including the Ramune bottles used for the challenge, a hotel-original mask case, Ramune-scented bath salts, and a small drawstring bag.

The room launches March 19 across 12 Henn na Hotel and Henn na Resort & Spa properties in Japan. Prices start at ¥15,600 per night with breakfast or ¥13,800 without (tax and service included).

The chain already has a reputation for unusual concepts—“Henn na” literally means “strange” in Japanese—and its growing list of brand-themed rooms recently earned a Guinness World Record for the most sponsored concept rooms in a hotel chain.

With the Ramune collaboration, the total climbs to 53.

Apparently, even hotels in Japan sometimes come flavored like candy.
