From paella monja to taco monja, the new Maihama spot turns Japan’s iron-griddle comfort food into culinary chaos
Paella monjayaki sounds fake. At Moheji (モヘジ), it’s real — and it arrives sizzling beside taco monja, borscht monja, and more than 50 other globally confused creations.
Opened on April 28, 2026 inside Maihama’s Ikspiari complex, the new concept from Tsukishima monjayaki specialist “Tsukishima Monja Moheji” turns Japan’s famously gooey iron-griddle comfort food into something closer to a culinary fever dream.

The menu pulls from 19 countries. A seafood-heavy “Paella Monja” sits next to “Mexican Tacos Cheese Monja,” while lamb and chrysanthemum greens appear in the oddly poetic “Grassland Monja.” Everything is eaten the traditional way: scraped directly off the hot grill with a tiny spatula called a Hagashi (ハガシ).
The restaurant itself goes full theme park. Seven different zones — including “Cabbage no Toriko” and “Maison Mentai” — each come with their own decorations, gimmicks, and slightly unhinged energy.

Underneath the chaos, though, there’s real monjayaki pedigree. The seafood comes through the owner’s family-run Toyosu fish wholesaler, founded in 1871, while the house dashi blends seafood, chicken stock, and aromatic vegetables.
It’s monjayaki as world tour, fever dream, and dinner all at once. Somehow, it works.
