Ikebukuro Nettai Yoichi feels more like a crowded Asian night fair than a beer garden
Lanterns, neon and unlimited beer have taken over a rooftop directly above Ikebukuro Station.
Ikebukuro Nettai Yoichi (池袋熱帯夜市) opened on April 24 on the 16th-floor rooftop of Tobu Department Store Ikebukuro, turning the space into a chaotic mash-up of Chinese-style night market energy, Taiwanese street food and all-you-can-drink beer garden culture.

The setup is split between yakiniku — Japanese tabletop barbecue — and mala hot pot courses. Depending on the set, diners can expect thick-cut pork belly sizzling on the grill, beef and chicken platters, vegetables for wrapping and dipping, and spicy miso sauces served alongside the meat. Every course also comes with a 120-minute all-you-can-drink plan, leaning fully into the beer garden atmosphere.

But the real hook might be the “yatai tickets” included with each set. Guests can trade them for night market snacks, desserts and games scattered around the venue.
Among the street-food lineup are Rurouhan (魯肉飯), Taiwan’s braised pork rice bowl, and Dajipai (大鶏排), the famously oversized Taiwanese fried chicken cutlet. Tapioca milk tea and a “Taiwan-style golf bingo” game push the atmosphere even further into festival territory.

The rooftop also features neon-lit drink bars and market-style food stalls designed to feel more like wandering through a crowded night fair than sitting down for dinner.
Walk-ins are allowed, though weekends are expected to fill up quickly. Somewhere between a beer garden and sensory overload, this may be Ikebukuro’s loudest dinner plan of the season.
