Japan’s GPS RPG just turned a shrine souvenir into a wobbly sweet
To mark the 6.5-year anniversary of Dragon Quest Walk, the location-based mobile RPG is bringing back one of its strangest crossovers yet: Slime Uiro (スライムういろう). The app uses your phone’s GPS to turn real-world walking into gameplay—think battles, quests, and loot tied to actual landmarks across Japan. (And yes, it’s only available there.)

This is the fourth round of the game’s “Real Omiyage Project,” a series that turns digital souvenirs—earned by physically visiting real sites—into physical snacks. This time, Aichi gets the spotlight, with Nagoya confectioner Aoyagi Sohonke behind the sweets.
The treat first appeared in 2022. Now it’s back from March 12 to June 14, 2026—while supplies last. Which probably won’t be long.
In the game, visiting Atsuta Shrine unlocks a local “uiro” souvenir item. In real life, that becomes a three-piece set of glossy, wobbling Slimes: classic plain as Slime, mikan as Slime Bess, and kiwi as Lime Slime.
They look battle-ready. No synthetic coloring. Properly chewy, as Nagoya uiro should be. Cute, but not unserious.

You’ll find them across Aichi Prefecture: at Aoyagi Sohonke’s Osu main store, its Esca underground mall shop, and the JR Nagoya Takashimaya location, plus Nagoya Castle shops, Chubu Centrair International Airport, Nagoya Airfield, select service areas, and Aeon Style stores. The Osu and Esca shops also stock official Dragon Quest goods, if you’re leaning in.
Online sales start March 12 at 11am via Aoyagi Sohonke’s official shop. Limit two per person. Shipping begins in April.
Japan has a long habit of turning regional sweets into character collaborations, but few are quite as strangely fitting as a smiling slime made from traditional uiro rice cake.
A regional game item you can actually bite into. If you needed an excuse to detour to Nagoya, here it is—blue, round, and mildly judging you.
