Miss the 15th, Miss the Flavor. FUJISAN KOYOMI MONAKA
Made by a longtime sweets maker in Shizuoka, this monaka is sold only on the 15th of each month. Miss the date, miss the flavor. Starting February 15, 2026, it gets a quiet but clever upgrade: each month now comes wrapped in its own individual package, designed to match the season inside.

The idea stays the same. Twelve flavors. One per month. Ingredients that actually make sense for the time of year. It’s less “traditional wagashi lecture,” more “mark your calendar.” That once-a-month drop has already built a loyal following, and honestly, it’s easy to see why.
What’s new is the look. Each flavor now has its own monthly wrapper—soft colors, slightly playful, not stuck in wagashi nostalgia. The goal? Make it feel less intimidating, even if you don’t usually wander into the Japanese sweets aisle.
The first release under the new packaging is the February-only Chocolate Orange Monaka(チョコオレンジもなか), on sale February 15. One piece runs ¥265 (tax included). Chocolate meets citrus, just once a year. No repeats. No reruns.

It’s designed for tea time, sure—but also birthdays, thank-yous, and those moments when you want to give something small that doesn’t feel generic. A monthly sweet with a built-in sense of occasion.
That’s the hook. You only meet each flavor once a year. Seasons change, flavors move on, and if you weren’t paying attention—well, see you next February.
