Monthly chef specials and spicy “hot day” events explained
Forty meters up, beer in hand, night air moving through—summer in Gifu begins here.
SOT△DE(ソトデ) returns to the rooftop of Miyako Hotel Gifu Nagaragawa from June 11 to September 30, with advance tickets available from April 13. A summer regular, it’s scaled up this year to mark the 20th anniversary of the Miyako Hotels & Resorts brand.

What you get is an open-air space with wide views over the Nagara River area, paired with a buffet that moves across Japanese, Western, and Chinese dishes. Drinks run from draft and craft beer to cocktails, easy to dip into after work or settle into with a group.
A rotating “chef service” keeps the menu in motion. Each month brings a different dish, finished in front of guests—nigiri sushi in June, abalone with spicy sauce in July, beef steak with Chaliapin sauce in August, and Hida pork shabu-shabu (a Japanese hot pot where thinly sliced meat is briefly swished in broth) in September.

Then there’s “HOT DAY.” Any date ending in zero triggers a spicier lineup, with dishes like kimchi pork yakisoba, tacos, and mapo tofu joining in. It’s a small twist, but an effective one.
The rest leans generous: kushiage (deep-fried skewers), curry rice, gyoza, chilled udon, and soft-serve-style “silk ice,” plus rotating seasonal plates. Early summer brings Niçoise-style salads and tiramisu; later months shift to Korean-style salads, sweet-and-sour pork, and mango pudding. From July onward, additions like marinated sweetfish and fried chicken cartilage round things out.
Turns out, zeros might be the best dates on the calendar.
