Antenor teams up with a Kyoto tea merchant for a layered Uji matcha cake

A mail-order-only matcha cake is on the way—and it starts with a custom blend you won’t find anywhere else.

From Kobe-born patisserie Antenor comes Uji Matcha no Cake (宇治抹茶のケーク), created in collaboration with Kyoto’s long-established tea merchant Kitagawa Hanbē Shōten. It launches online on April 2, 2026.

Uji Matcha no Cake

At the heart of it is “Kyō no Uguisu,” an original matcha crafted by tea masters and pastry chefs together. The aromatic Uji matcha is paired with wasanbon, a traditional Japanese sugar prized for its delicate sweetness, and baked with Hokkaido azuki beans for contrast.

A smooth white chocolate ganache is piped on top, then the whole cake is coated in matcha chocolate. The combination brings together the gentle bitterness of matcha and the creamy richness of the ganache in each bite.

Founded in Kobe in 1978, Antenor is a Western-style confectionery brand by Edelweiss Co., Ltd., with 38 locations nationwide, mainly in department stores, offering artisan-crafted fresh cakes and baked goods.

You won’t spot this one in a display case—it’s strictly a by-order treat.
