The viral donburi that sold over 137,000 bowls is now available with even more seafood
A seafood bowl loaded with uni and ikura for just ¥1,300? That’s the kind of math that turns heads.
Japan’s seafood retailer 角上魚類ホールディングス has launched an upgraded version of its wildly popular donburi, now called Goshikidon (五色丼). It is now available at all locations as of March 30, 2026.

The bowl comes topped with five kinds of seafood: salmon roe (ikura), sea urchin (uni), minced tuna, shrimp, and—new this time—fresh squid. It’s a step up from the previous four-item version, which already had a reputation for generous portions and low prices.
That earlier bowl wasn’t just popular—it was award-winning. In 2025, it took the top prize at the “Tokubai Delicious Food Grand Prix,” then went on to sell more than 137,600 servings during a limited-time nationwide release.
Originally sold only at the Teradomari flagship store in Niigata, the donburi had already been moving about 27,000 units annually. The award turned it into a breakout hit, prompting customers to ask for a wider release—and a comeback.
Rather than simply raising the price, the company added a fifth topping while keeping the portion size at least on par with the original. The result is a slightly pricier bowl (up ¥100), but one that leans even harder into volume and variety.
In Japan, seafood bowls like this are a staple of fish markets and specialty shops—quick, casual, and often surprisingly luxurious for the price.
Five toppings, a national rollout, and a near-impossible price point. Not bad for something you can pick up like a boxed lunch.
